COVID-19 STUDY

The impact of the crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has been and will be enormous for the cultural sector in general and, especially, for the performing and live arts sector. The effects of the pandemic are multiple and dramatic, causing a sudden shutdown of all public activities, a gradual recovery of social and cultural life, as well as partial and in some cases definitive restructuring of the cultural workforce.

Due to this, FAETEDA and The Spanish Network of Theaters have promoted a study to measure and put into context the impact that the pandemic is having on the performing arts sector. The study, prepared by teknecultura, is based on the analysis of activity data and the results of surveys carried out among spanish exhibitors, producers and performing arts companies, and attempts to obtain key data to understand the serious economic effect of this health crisis.

The study is framed in a temporary period of 2 years (2021-2022) and will have two deliveries: a first one with the analysis of 2020 data, which was presented on 2 December at the Mercartes Forum, and a second one, which will include the impact data for the year 2021 and will be presented in the second half of 2022.

The objective is to quantify, evaluate and understand the impact, both economically and socially, throughout this period, providing relevant information for the professional sector as a whole, as well as for the competent Administrations.

The Study on the impact of COVID-19 on the performing arts is possible thanks to the collaboration of the INAEM.
